Callista - Heart's Desire

Callista stood before the thick, dusty book, the bright flame flickered in her hand as it illuminated the neglected library around her.

 

She found it.. She finally found it. The Silenda Grimoire. It had been hidden and locked up oh so tightly. A forbidden book due to the dangerous pieces of knowledge and spells inside it. But finally, after years of searching, she had found it… And with it, she would finally get her heart’s desire.

 

With a gentle and tender hand, she let loose her flame as it hovered loyally nearby. She brushed off the heavy coating of dust on the cover, but not before eliciting a soft sneeze as it went up her nose. Prying open the cover, she flicked through the pages to search for the spell. It was quite difficult as the book was old and many pages were a bit faded due to time. 

 

Finally her eyes fell on the page she was looking for.. The.. blessing ..something… desire… spell…??? Oh dear, the title had been worn away due to age but after scanning through the contents briefly, she was certain this was the right spell, and thanks to her experience in magic, casting this spell should be easy.

 

She felt her heart flutter for the first time in a millennia, the thought of reuniting with her sweetheart simply brought about some long buried emotions within her.

 

Closing her eyes and extending a hand, she focused on chanting the words from the page while thinking deeply about her heart’s desire… her greatest wish… 

 

To be reunited with her sweetheart Aurelius, the love of her life, the one who was taken from her far too early. Thousands of years of loneliness and missing him, and finally she would finally be able to see him again.

 

Of course  there was something she skimmed over in the book, a slight ‘catch’.. A price for such a desire… She would have to sacrifice something, nothing comes for free, after all.

 

Call her selfish or self-centered, but despite everything good going for her in her life.. Her booming business, loving family, and close friends, she was willing to throw it all away for this chance to reunite with Aurelius, whether she had to pay by erasing her own existence from this world, making everyone she knew and loved forget about her, or even causing the end of the world… She was ready to give up anything and everything.

 

As her spell casting built up into a final crescendo, she was startled as she let out a gasp and her train of thought was broken as the door to the hidden area of the library she was in opened with a loud creek and footsteps echoed down the empty corridors… She was unaware that anyone would still come down here, given how neglected and dusty the place was.

 

It seems she would have to complete her spell and her wish another day as she extinguished her magical flame and dashed through the shadows, making her exit out of the room.
